Album Cover
Our album cover keeps with the Kid Cudi 'Day 'N' Night' theme. We do have the words Kid Cudi Day 'N' Night on our album cover, obviously, to tell people what the music video is called and who it is by. The font is fluorescent green and fluorescent yellow, which connects with the 'dance' genre that our music video is in.
We have included a shot from the photoshoot we did; Jamie the protagonist sat on a bench relaxing, this shows our main character and also creates a welcoming front cover, which would help sell the product.
We used photoshop to edit the album cover in order to make it look professional and of 'a high standard'. Overall, it looked clean and could easily sell if it were to go on sale.

(Evaluation) 4. How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?
During production we have used a number of technologies to get our project to where it is. A number of camera’s were used including the canon 36x and then the footage was edited using Final cut pro on the Apple Mac computers.
When it come to evaluation and putting down our progress during the production, Blogger really became useful, mainly because it's much easier and more simpler than putting it into essay form, also because everyone in the group could contribute to it.
Youtube has also been essential because we've been able to post links onto the Blogger showing the examples of videos & inspirations because they've helped during the production.
The use of Facebook was original but was a new idea. That enabled us to show our audience our products & receive adequate feed backs both positive & negative.
Photoshop was used to help us create the album covers and posters. It was a difficult but rewarding process. The phots were taken on a decent camera phone and then uploaded onto the macs.

3.(Evaluation)What have we learned form audience feedback?
We began our production not knowing what feedback we would get. Our first attempt was poor as it was too pedestrian for such an upbeat song, the introduction was too long, the performance was limited and there was too much disjunction that didn’t make to much sense and the main problem was there was not a wide range of shots to help the editing look quick and fast paced. We took all that criticism on board and effectively changed the main concept of out video.
The performance became more constant which allowed us get a more fun feel to the music video.
The disjuncture has been removed and there is a lot more sense to the whole video. We have instead gone for the performance and narrative approach with a small storyline and the stars dancing and mining.
The main problem in our original production was the introduction was too long before the music even began so we cut that out completely and compared to our 1 minute 30 second intro we now have a 6 second intro which allows the video to have a quicker and fast paced feel to the production. There was also the amount of 'long' shots involved, they were simply to long. Now the video is fast paced with many shorter and sweeter shots. Another critisim we had was the lack of camera angles. This was rectified by re-shooting nearly all our video.

(Evaluation)2.How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
On the poster is a picture of the Jamie Barker & Adrian West who are both stars with the name of the artist & song, along with the imagery of the song title day & night.
The video itself is based on two students who are looking for a good time, with the two locations of where its shot can attract students, because the two locations are based in the Manchester City Centre & Fallowfield, these two areas is basically the social & party area especially Fallowfield which is popular for the student district. For the CD cover the bright colours & big fonts attract, also the slang used in the title ‘N’ appeals to the younger audience who are in our age range because we use slang to communicate with each other.
As far as TV channels is concerned it would mainly be useful for KISS, MTV Dance & Flaunt TV which is a Rnb/Hip Hop Channel
The magazine that it could appeal to is a magazine called RWD, mainly because it's a RnB, Grime & Hip hop magazine which talks about those genres including interviews, new chart singles & could so place the poster of the song on the magazine cover because its a new chart single which links to our target audience.
The combination between the two is really effective because the song the video are both narrated & illustrated mainly because of the theme of the whole video.

(Evaluation)1.In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
We gained a lot of inspiration from music videos such as the original day and night video, h2o-love shy, Lisa Mafia-Bad girl and most recently Black Eyed Peas- I got a feeling. The reason we have gained inspiration from these videos was because we have the main theme of two young students of getting ready for a party, the student lifestyle in the day and the night. We wanted to get it across that the fun for students is evident through day and night so the student culture is consistent. There is also the theme of love young love (not throughout the video) which is expressed in our video. These conventions in our music video are evident in all the videos we researched.
One convention we chose to break was that the song is originally sung by a solo artist (Kid Cudi) but instead of having one main star performer, we decided to have two on a solo song. We watched many other music videos from many different genres because we wanted to appeal to many different audience who like different music videos. We watched kings of Leon-sex on fire, U2-beautiful day and also T-Pain-Church. We tried to mix conventions from these videos into one to make our music video. We had the performers have fun when miming the words, different dance routines, different costumes ECT.

Inspiration
Our inspiration for this music video was Kid Cudi's amazing work and how he captured audiences with his inspiring songs. His lyrics are easy to learn and allow audiences to sing along; his song is based on real life, such as, " Day 'N' Night, i toss and turn, i keep stressing my mind, mind" the feeling of not beng able to sleep, most probably because he has a girl on his mind etc, and "He's all alone some things will never change", the feeling of being alone with no girl beside him.
We felt it was a song that would be easy to lip sync and dance to, in order to keep with the beat and tempo of the song. We were also able to match the lyrics to the illustrational dance movements, such as, "Hold the phone", we had Adrian holding a phone and we created a 360 degree shot that circled him.

Poster for Day 'N' Night
We have decided to take a picture of our main star Jamie (Protagonist), and edit the colour so that it has a dance theme to it. We have decided to go with Light Green and Yellow font, which creates a warmer and livelier feeling. We have included the date of release at the bottom, for a presentational device and to help indicate to the audience, that it is a Poster for the music video.
I believe we have created a superb poster and it has the same 'housestyle' etc, as the Album cover, which keeps with the theme of our music video and sustains it's look.

Green Screen
We have decided to use the Green screen in our music video. This was'nt planned but through discussion and team meetings, we eventually came to the decision that it would work best in our music video and would surely boost its credibility.
Personally, i believe it has been a successful decision and overall has gave our music video a modern touch and has enabled us to keep with the fast paste song by having quicker and cleaner cuts.
We have had a few problems to do with the green screen shots in which we had collected but have managed to use most of them and have finally finished.

2 Stars
We've now decided that instead of Jamie Barker becoming the main star, him & Adrian West will both have the dual roles in the video.
Because in the video the shots of Jamie & Adrian getting changed is exactly equal as well as both of their performance, which includes miming & dancing.
Originally Jamie Barker was the main star but because of certain circumstances the video had to be changed and Adrian contributed into assisting Jamie Barker.
Also towards the end of the video me & Adam Garydne had minor roles which was in the dance off

Contributions & Experiences (James Barker)
In the making of the music video, I have been appointed as cheif editor. This basically means I am incharge of the editing, but I have let the others take control where ever they felt they should, so that everyone contributes. Being in this role has taught me alot about editing and the amount of effort a good music video requires. I have also been in the music video itself as the protagonist. If I'm honest, I prefer to be behind the camer than infront of it. This is because I feel that I can give more to the video with certain skills (such as editing) than with my acting skills.
Having said that, I am happy that I have given it a try, as it is good to get as much experience in as many different roles as you can, especially as I want to have a career in media. I have learnt much from this production, and I hope to keep learning things as we progress to the end of the year.

Front of CD cover research.
This is Kid Cudi's front cover of his CD for the song we are doing 'DAY 'N' NIGHT'. As you can see he has an animation of him as a space man. We have done a similar piece but we haven't included any random picture such as, the spaceman, we have used a picture that was included in our photoshoot.
This is one of Kid Cudi's CD covers from one of his original songs. We were originally going to do a similar piece but we decided to move away from this idea, as it did not show off our creative talents.

Contributions and Experiences (Adam Gardyne)
I was set the task to be head camera man. This was the first time i had ever been set this role, so i was keen to learn and experience what it was like.
I have to say it can be extremely difficult and i have had severe pressures to do with camera shots and camera focus as the cameras we have had to work with hav'nt been the best.
I have had some difficulties with shots, to do with height, therefore our Director (Tosan) has had to step up and help out.
We have all had a big input in making the music video, to do with: ideas, camera shots, choosing the song etc. I believe we have worked extremely well together and make a successful group.

Deadline Day : Close by.
As the Deadline Day for our music video approaches, we are currently working extremely hard as always to complete on time within a high standard but also aiming to complete our Magazine and CD cover as we know each are important towards our final overall grade.
We are currently designing our covers so that they have both relevance and similarities with our music video. In order to complete all tasks set, we are all prepared to work extra hard and come back after college for a few hours each day.

Contribution & Experiences (Adrian West)
My individual role during production have been producer.
Although Tosan Adeogun was director i have helped him make key decisions almost as an assistant director. I have been enjoying my time as producer because me and Tosan have worked off each other and had different idea and brought them together which is making this project a success. The pressure has also be relieved off me and Tosan because we have the two most important jobs.
My next major role will be be Chief Designer which will involve design the poster and C-D cover for our music video. I have already been involved in design with various costumes in the video so i have experienced design before.

Questions for the chief editor (Jamie Barker)
How is the general progress coming along?
How pleased have you been with the length and quality of footage you have recieved to use?
The editor is one of the most importnat jobs during the whole production stage (pre, pro and post prodction) so how much pressure do you feel your under to make the project a success and have the other members of the group added to that pressure?
How difficult has it been editing a faced paced video?
What differnces have you experienced in this production compared to other projects in the past?
As chief editor your job is to do the majority of the editing, but how much help have you needed and had from others in the production team?

Contribution & Experience(Tosan Adeogun)
During the whole production one of my contributions is providing the transportation.
I used my car to drive us to film locations: e.g the residency of Jamie Barker, it was also featured inside the movie, even though I was the director I did not mind being filmed as part of the film itself, because in most film productions its not often you see the director inside the actual movie.
My whole experience of directing has been very eye-opening mainly, because i want to pursuit the career of directing in the future and this post production has allowed me to put my knowledge and what I've learned to be put into play and hopefully it will become quite a success.
I'd say that being a director is not exactly an easy stroll in the park mainly because the others depend on you for ideas and also you have to make sure that each person who has been assigned job has to do it and do it well.
So it hasn't been very easy but not exactly difficult
Anyone who say that directing is very simple and straight forward has to at least have directed a movie or a short movie to make that opinion., and it they say it's easy well i presume that they have used a different type of technique.
During the production Adrian West(producer) keyed in some ideas, Adam Gardyne & Jamie Barker did the same, however Adrian West stepped out of his role momentarily and became more an assistant director, which was very efficient because it didn't add so much pressure on me which made it more relaxing.

The Question asked during the interviews for The Director.
Questions for The Director (Tosan Adeogun)
How is the production process going?
Is it easy directing such a high paced project?
What elements of directing have you had in the past that have helped you in the particular production?
You have directed films in the past but how different is it directing a music video?
What problems have you encounterd during this production, and if so how did you combat these problems?
The roles are seperated within the group, so how pleased are you with the general team work in the group?
who sre your intened audience for this project?
What do you intend to achieve from this music video?
How is this whole experience going to help you towards a possible career in the film or maybe even music industry?

Dilemmas
During the editing we realised that we have to cut some of shots out, because when we reviewed it we saw that if we put the rest of shots in it would overrun the limited time limit.
On Friday the others in the group was able to get shot several shots of some Manchester's attractions during the evening, the reason is because it would add to the concept it going from day to night, hence the title of our song: Day N Nite.
When Jamie came up with the idea of getting those shots the rest of us agreed because getting the shot of Manchester city centre going into night time, when everyone usually goes out clubbing mainly to meet friends or trying to meet the opposite sex is a excellent scenario, because that's what our video is mainly about an average teen going clubbing to meet a girl.
The main Dilemma we are suffering is the fact that it's raining, this is quite a serious problem because throughout the video the weather is perfect clear and if we film with the rain it just wouldn't go.
So as far as the editing goes there is no problem whatsoever its mainly just the filming, this however will not bring our confidence down.
We know the deadline is coming up & we know we have to try and get all our eggs in one basket, but we are determined to finish this as soon as and still achieve a high grade.

Friday 6th November
On friday evening our group went into town to capture some establishing shots of the city centre, trying to include some of the things Manchester has to offer, including: The Arndale Centre, The Printworks and The Big Wheel. We successfully gathered numerous shots of Manchester at night, giving us a choice of camera angles and different shots of the city to include in our music video.
We are under severe pressure to complete our Music video within the deadline as problems have occured several times. W e are still completely confident in our ability to complete the video to a high standard.

Problems.
We have had numerous problems making our music video so far, problems include:
1. Lighting - to do with the inside light within our set location ( bedroom). We needed to show a clear distinction between the day and the night in our music video. Eventually we believe that we overcome the problem by changing the shot angles and through team work.
2. Rain - This set us back quite a while as the weather kept us from filming outside and also the travel between locations.
3. Camera Problems - A couple of times we were given a different camera to the previous, which gave us some disappointing results. We decided to go back and retake the shots, which improved hugely.
4. On the road - Our music video involves a small amount of driving; this created huge problems as we had to film our car whilst avoiding traffic. Timing was of huge importance and although it was extremely difficult to get our shots, we waited until the traffic dispersed then we eventually got the shot we were looking for.

General Progress
So far, the group have really worked together, and we are getting on really well which is a great bonus to have in this kind of situation. We are all contributing ideas and skills to the project and feel that we are well on sheduale. We are currently editing our footage as to have a detailed timeline so we dont get overwelmed with it all at a later stage of the year.
We have planned ahead by setting ourselves a personal deadline for certain stages of production. An example of this would be the date for which we want to finish filming by (the week before half term). In terms of progress, I believe that we are well on course and will have a great production.

Filming (13/10/09)
As the director it was my responsiblity to make sure that the actor(Jmaie) was in the right places, the lighting was sufficient, that the camera angle was suitable.
Even though Adam is the cameraman there have been a few times where i have had to do the filiming becuase of the shots that required some height advantage.
During the filming all of us contributed our ideas across, so it wasnt just one person alone it was all of us together as a team.
On the third day of filiming we decided to use my car for the opening scene, the scene would be of me pulling up in the car & waiting impatiently alongside with Adam.
It was good taking in the movie as far as being of the cast is concered, when we was filimg the car scene it wasnt anything dangerous it was all really simple.
I'm glad that I'm working with team that dont slack or have impatient, & I'm really confident that we will get it done on time

Todays Filming (6/10/09)
Today was the second day of filming. Our first day was unsucesssful as when we were reveiwing our footage, our shots were questionable. So today we decided to re-shoot. I personally think that we did much better today as the group new exactly what needed to be improved from last time.
There were also new ideas thrown into the mix with new camera shots, a change in the narrative and the performance. We did however have camera issues as the camera we had was not great. But we adapted, and came out with much more interesting and entertaining footage.

Choosing a song.
Choosing our song was a difficult job. We all voiced our opinion on what song to do and why but also what techniques and ideas we may have in order make our music video a success.
We had a number of options such as, Kings of Leon - Sex is on fire, T-pain- Church and Kid Cudi- Day and Night.
We had to consider on what type of genre would be best and how much we all knew about the genre in terms of dress code, props etc.
In the end we all agreed on Kid Cudi because we felt we could do alot more in terms of mise-en-scene and camera editing. We have decided to use a mixture of ideas within the group and some interesting techniques in order to produce an excellent music video.
