Original storyboard

Album Cover

Our album cover keeps with the Kid Cudi 'Day 'N' Night' theme. We do have the words Kid Cudi Day 'N' Night on our album cover, obviously, to tell people what the music video is called and who it is by. The font is fluorescent green and fluorescent yellow, which connects with the 'dance' genre that our music video is in.

We have included a shot from the photoshoot we did; Jamie the protagonist sat on a bench relaxing, this shows our main character and also creates a welcoming front cover, which would help sell the product.

We used photoshop to edit the album cover in order to make it look professional and of 'a high standard'. Overall, it looked clean and could easily sell if it were to go on sale.

(Evaluation) 4. How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?

During production we have used a number of technologies to get our project to where it is. A number of camera’s were used including the canon 36x and then the footage was edited using Final cut pro on the Apple Mac computers.

When it come to evaluation and putting down our progress during the production, Blogger really became useful, mainly because it's much easier and more simpler than putting it into essay form, also because everyone in the group could contribute to it.

Youtube has also been essential because we've been able to post links onto the Blogger showing the examples of videos & inspirations because they've helped during the production.

The use of Facebook was original but was a new idea. That enabled us to show our audience our products & receive adequate feed backs both positive & negative.

Photoshop was used to help us create the album covers and posters. It was a difficult but rewarding process. The phots were taken on a decent camera phone and then uploaded onto the macs.

3.(Evaluation)What have we learned form audience feedback?

We began our production not knowing what feedback we would get. Our first attempt was poor as it was too pedestrian for such an upbeat song, the introduction was too long, the performance was limited and there was too much disjunction that didn’t make to much sense and the main problem was there was not a wide range of shots to help the editing look quick and fast paced. We took all that criticism on board and effectively changed the main concept of out video.
The performance became more constant which allowed us get a more fun feel to the music video.

The disjuncture has been removed and there is a lot more sense to the whole video. We have instead gone for the performance and narrative approach with a small storyline and the stars dancing and mining.

The main problem in our original production was the introduction was too long before the music even began so we cut that out completely and compared to our 1 minute 30 second intro we now have a 6 second intro which allows the video to have a quicker and fast paced feel to the production. There was also the amount of 'long' shots involved, they were simply to long. Now the video is fast paced with many shorter and sweeter shots. Another critisim we had was the lack of camera angles. This was rectified by re-shooting nearly all our video.

(Evaluation)2.How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

On the poster is a picture of the Jamie Barker & Adrian West who are both stars with the name of the artist & song, along with the imagery of the song title day & night.

The video itself is based on two students who are looking for a good time, with the two locations of where its shot can attract students, because the two locations are based in the Manchester City Centre & Fallowfield, these two areas is basically the social & party area especially Fallowfield which is popular for the student district. For the CD cover the bright colours & big fonts attract, also the slang used in the title ‘N’ appeals to the younger audience who are in our age range because we use slang to communicate with each other.
As far as TV channels is concerned it would mainly be useful for KISS, MTV Dance & Flaunt TV which is a Rnb/Hip Hop Channel

The magazine that it could appeal to is a magazine called RWD, mainly because it's a RnB, Grime & Hip hop magazine which talks about those genres including interviews, new chart singles & could so place the poster of the song on the magazine cover because its a new chart single which links to our target audience.

The combination between the two is really effective because the song the video are both narrated & illustrated mainly because of the theme of the whole video.

(Evaluation)1.In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

We gained a lot of inspiration from music videos such as the original day and night video, h2o-love shy, Lisa Mafia-Bad girl and most recently Black Eyed Peas- I got a feeling. The reason we have gained inspiration from these videos was because we have the main theme of two young students of getting ready for a party, the student lifestyle in the day and the night. We wanted to get it across that the fun for students is evident through day and night so the student culture is consistent. There is also the theme of love young love (not throughout the video) which is expressed in our video. These conventions in our music video are evident in all the videos we researched.

One convention we chose to break was that the song is originally sung by a solo artist (Kid Cudi) but instead of having one main star performer, we decided to have two on a solo song. We watched many other music videos from many different genres because we wanted to appeal to many different audience who like different music videos. We watched kings of Leon-sex on fire, U2-beautiful day and also T-Pain-Church. We tried to mix conventions from these videos into one to make our music video. We had the performers have fun when miming the words, different dance routines, different costumes ECT.

Inspiration

Our inspiration for this music video was Kid Cudi's amazing work and how he captured audiences with his inspiring songs. His lyrics are easy to learn and allow audiences to sing along; his song is based on real life, such as, " Day 'N' Night, i toss and turn, i keep stressing my mind, mind" the feeling of not beng able to sleep, most probably because he has a girl on his mind etc, and "He's all alone some things will never change", the feeling of being alone with no girl beside him.

We felt it was a song that would be easy to lip sync and dance to, in order to keep with the beat and tempo of the song. We were also able to match the lyrics to the illustrational dance movements, such as, "Hold the phone", we had Adrian holding a phone and we created a 360 degree shot that circled him.
