Contributions and Experiences (Adam Gardyne)

I was set the task to be head camera man. This was the first time i had ever been set this role, so i was keen to learn and experience what it was like.

I have to say it can be extremely difficult and i have had severe pressures to do with camera shots and camera focus as the cameras we have had to work with hav'nt been the best.

I have had some difficulties with shots, to do with height, therefore our Director (Tosan) has had to step up and help out.

We have all had a big input in making the music video, to do with: ideas, camera shots, choosing the song etc. I believe we have worked extremely well together and make a successful group.

Deadline Day : Close by.

As the Deadline Day for our music video approaches, we are currently working extremely hard as always to complete on time within a high standard but also aiming to complete our Magazine and CD cover as we know each are important towards our final overall grade.

We are currently designing our covers so that they have both relevance and similarities with our music video. In order to complete all tasks set, we are all prepared to work extra hard and come back after college for a few hours each day.

Contribution & Experiences (Adrian West)

My individual role during production have been producer.
Although Tosan Adeogun was director i have helped him make key decisions almost as an assistant director. I have been enjoying my time as producer because me and Tosan have worked off each other and had different idea and brought them together which is making this project a success. The pressure has also be relieved off me and Tosan because we have the two most important jobs.

My next major role will be be Chief Designer which will involve design the poster and C-D cover for our music video. I have already been involved in design with various costumes in the video so i have experienced design before.

Questions for the chief editor (Jamie Barker)

How is the general progress coming along?
How pleased have you been with the length and quality of footage you have recieved to use?
The editor is one of the most importnat jobs during the whole production stage (pre, pro and post prodction) so how much pressure do you feel your under to make the project a success and have the other members of the group added to that pressure?
How difficult has it been editing a faced paced video?
What differnces have you experienced in this production compared to other projects in the past?
As chief editor your job is to do the majority of the editing, but how much help have you needed and had from others in the production team?

Contribution & Experience(Tosan Adeogun)

During the whole production one of my contributions is providing the transportation.

I used my car to drive us to film locations: e.g the residency of Jamie Barker, it was also featured inside the movie, even though I was the director I did not mind being filmed as part of the film itself, because in most film productions its not often you see the director inside the actual movie.

My whole experience of directing has been very eye-opening mainly, because i want to pursuit the career of directing in the future and this post production has allowed me to put my knowledge and what I've learned to be put into play and hopefully it will become quite a success.

I'd say that being a director is not exactly an easy stroll in the park mainly because the others depend on you for ideas and also you have to make sure that each person who has been assigned job has to do it and do it well.

So it hasn't been very easy but not exactly difficult

Anyone who say that directing is very simple and straight forward has to at least have directed a movie or a short movie to make that opinion., and it they say it's easy well i presume that they have used a different type of technique.

During the production Adrian West(producer) keyed in some ideas, Adam Gardyne & Jamie Barker did the same, however Adrian West stepped out of his role momentarily and became more an assistant director, which was very efficient because it didn't add so much pressure on me which made it more relaxing.

Interviews 17/11/09

The Question asked during the interviews for The Director.

Questions for The Director (Tosan Adeogun)

How is the production process going?
Is it easy directing such a high paced project?
What elements of directing have you had in the past that have helped you in the particular production?
You have directed films in the past but how different is it directing a music video?
What problems have you encounterd during this production, and if so how did you combat these problems?
The roles are seperated within the group, so how pleased are you with the general team work in the group?
who sre your intened audience for this project?
What do you intend to achieve from this music video?
How is this whole experience going to help you towards a possible career in the film or maybe even music industry?

Dilemmas

During the editing we realised that we have to cut some of shots out, because when we reviewed it we saw that if we put the rest of shots in it would overrun the limited time limit.

On Friday the others in the group was able to get shot several shots of some Manchester's attractions during the evening, the reason is because it would add to the concept it going from day to night, hence the title of our song: Day N Nite.

When Jamie came up with the idea of getting those shots the rest of us agreed because getting the shot of Manchester city centre going into night time, when everyone usually goes out clubbing mainly to meet friends or trying to meet the opposite sex is a excellent scenario, because that's what our video is mainly about an average teen going clubbing to meet a girl.

The main Dilemma we are suffering is the fact that it's raining, this is quite a serious problem because throughout the video the weather is perfect clear and if we film with the rain it just wouldn't go.

So as far as the editing goes there is no problem whatsoever its mainly just the filming, this however will not bring our confidence down.

We know the deadline is coming up & we know we have to try and get all our eggs in one basket, but we are determined to finish this as soon as and still achieve a high grade.

Friday 6th November

On friday evening our group went into town to capture some establishing shots of the city centre, trying to include some of the things Manchester has to offer, including: The Arndale Centre, The Printworks and The Big Wheel. We successfully gathered numerous shots of Manchester at night, giving us a choice of camera angles and different shots of the city to include in our music video.

We are under severe pressure to complete our Music video within the deadline as problems have occured several times. W e are still completely confident in our ability to complete the video to a high standard.

Problems.

We have had numerous problems making our music video so far, problems include:

1. Lighting - to do with the inside light within our set location ( bedroom). We needed to show a clear distinction between the day and the night in our music video. Eventually we believe that we overcome the problem by changing the shot angles and through team work.

2. Rain - This set us back quite a while as the weather kept us from filming outside and also the travel between locations.

3. Camera Problems - A couple of times we were given a different camera to the previous, which gave us some disappointing results. We decided to go back and retake the shots, which improved hugely.

4. On the road - Our music video involves a small amount of driving; this created huge problems as we had to film our car whilst avoiding traffic. Timing was of huge importance and although it was extremely difficult to get our shots, we waited until the traffic dispersed then we eventually got the shot we were looking for.
